Boom Beach is a Freemium (“Free Premium”) mobile strategy video game available on the iOS and Android and was developed by Supercell. It was soft launched in Canada on 11 November 2013 and widely released on 26 March 2014.
Boom Beach is a strategy game and combines attacks on other players with attacks against computer based bases. The game’s storyline is set in a tropical archipelago with the player on an island with defences and troops (similar to the gameplay in Supercell’s Clash of Clans game). Players can build their base, upgrading their defenses and other buildings, and unlock troop upgrades. Boom Beach includes single player campaign play as well as the ability to attack other players in multiplayer mode. It has been a top 10 game in 22 countries at its launch. The game pits the player vs. an enemy known as “The Blackguard” who are often represented by Lt. Hammerman. Apart from the main aspect of the game, there is also a cooperative form where you create task forces. Everyone must gather Intel (whether it be by surviving or ordering attacks, or by rewards), where then upper classed players then attack bases. Each attack lasts a day, with a varying amount of Intel in order to initiate, and the bases are separated from archipelago.
Currency: Aside from gold, wood, stone and iron, the game also uses diamonds as a currency. Diamonds can be awarded for reaching certain milestones and completing certain achievements, but the main way to acquire diamonds is to purchase them using real world money. Diamonds can be used to speed up every aspect of the game (except for submarine dives) from construction time, to troop training to armory research. They can also be used to purchase more gold, wood, stone and iron. The only thing that cannot be bought with the diamonds are Powerstones, which are used to boost various aspects of the game like troop health, building health, resources, etc.
Buildings: There are a variety of buildings in Boom Beach that players can construct and upgrade throughout the game.
Boom Cannon: “Boom Cannons fire devastating shots but takes a while to reload. Even the strongest armor is no match for the Boom! Deals double damage to tanks.”
Boom Mines: “The Boom Mine stops the enemy in their tracks! Its armor piercing blast does double damage to tanks.”
Cannon: “Cannons fire powerful, large caliber shells towards one target at a time. This makes them ideal against heavy and armored enemies, but are less effective against mass infantry. Deals double damage to tanks.”
Flamethrower: “The Flamethrower is a close range weapon that deals huge amounts of damage. It’s especially deadly against massed infantry. Enemies will also burn for a while after being attacked by the Flamethrower.”
Machine Gun: “The Machine Gun turret sprays bullets at the enemy, rapidly dealing damage to massed infantry at close to medium range.”
Mines: “Mines trigger and explode when enemies come close.”
Mortar: “The Mortar is an artillery piece that is effective at medium to long range, but can’t target enemies right next to it. Mortar shells explode and deal damage to all troops in the area of effect.”
Rocket Launcher: “The Rocket Launcher is a long distance artillery piece. It fires a salvo of rockets, followed by a significant reload time.
Shock Launcher: “Enemy troops in the are of effect will be temporarily stunned. Stop Rushing Warriors in there tracks.”
Sniper Tower: “Snipers in the tower shoot at enemy attackers. They’re armed with rifles that have good range and do decent damage.”
