Modern Combat 5: Blackout is a 2014 first-person shooter developed by Gameloft Bucharest and published by Gameloft. It is the fifth installment of the Modern Combat series. It was released on July 24, 2014 for the iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.1. The trailer of Blackout shows the huge graphical leap over MC4.
The basic gameplay in Blackout is similar to the three previous games in the series, and also similar to the Call of Duty games. The player can crouch, sprint, throw grenades, aim, reload their weapons, leap to obstacles, knife enemies, change and pick up weapons. Just like the previous installment, the player can customize the controls at the settings menu. A new key feature to Modern Combat 5 is the ability to pick a soldier class ranging from assault, heavy, sniper and recon. The game had graphical improvement over its predecessor. An internet connection is required to play the game. The campaign focuses on Phoenix (a minor character in Modern Combat 4) trying to hunt down Sanders. Each mission is about 5 minutes long, noticeably shorter than previous entries in the series.
The game was met with positive reviews from critics. The iOS version holds aggregate scores of 81 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on fourteen reviews, and 81.22% on GameRankings, based on nine reviews.
